Les pompiers sont confront\u00e9s \u00e0 l'un des changements culturels les plus importants de notre histoire. Ce changement dictera la fa\u00e7on dont nous menons nos affaires et la fa\u00e7on dont nous prenons soin de nous sur les pompiers et dans nos stations. Cela commence par la prise de conscience que le cancer est une \u00e9pid\u00e9mie qui d\u00e9cime actuellement notre profession.<\/p>\n

Heureusement, il existe des actions sp\u00e9cifiques que les individus et les d\u00e9partements peuvent prendre pour se prot\u00e9ger. Alors que la prise de conscience de l'ampleur du cancer chez les pompiers devient de plus en plus \u00e9vidente, la Section des officiers volontaires et mixtes de l'Association internationale des chefs de pompiers et le Conseil national des pompiers volontaires, ainsi que la Fire Service Occupational Cancer Alliance, Firefighter Cancer Support Network, avec avec le soutien de California Casualty, a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 les 11 meilleures pratiques pour la pr\u00e9vention du cancer chez les pompiers. Ce rapport est une extension de ces meilleures pratiques afin de fournir des conseils sp\u00e9cifiques sur la fa\u00e7on d'adopter ces actions dans la culture quotidienne des services d'incendie.<\/p>\n

11 actions pour att\u00e9nuer le risque de cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Un \u00e9quipement de protection complet (EPI) doit \u00eatre port\u00e9 tout au long de l'incident, y compris un ARA pendant la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration et la r\u00e9vision.<\/li>\n
  2. Une deuxi\u00e8me cagoule doit \u00eatre fournie \u00e0 tout le personnel certifi\u00e9 d'entr\u00e9e dans le d\u00e9partement.<\/li>\n
  3. Apr\u00e8s la sortie de l'IDLH, et pendant que vous \u00eates toujours en ondes, vous devez commencer imm\u00e9diatement la d\u00e9sinfection totale des EPI \u00e0 l'aide d'eau savonneuse et d'une brosse, si les conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques le permettent. L'EPI doit ensuite \u00eatre plac\u00e9 dans un sac en plastique scell\u00e9 et plac\u00e9 dans un compartiment ext\u00e9rieur de la plate-forme, ou s'il r\u00e9pond en POV, plac\u00e9 dans un grand bac de stockage, gardant ainsi l'EPI d\u00e9gageant des gaz \u00e0 l'\u00e9cart des passagers et de soi.<\/li>\n
  4. Apr\u00e8s l'ach\u00e8vement des proc\u00e9dures de d\u00e9contamination g\u00e9n\u00e9rale d\u00e9crites ci-dessus, et pendant que vous \u00eates toujours sur les lieux, les zones expos\u00e9es du corps (cou, visage, bras et mains) doivent \u00eatre imm\u00e9diatement essuy\u00e9es \u00e0 l'aide de lingettes, qui doivent \u00eatre transport\u00e9es sur tous les appareils. Utilisez les lingettes pour \u00e9liminer le plus de suie possible de la t\u00eate, du cou, de la m\u00e2choire, de la gorge, des aisselles et des mains imm\u00e9diatement.<\/li>\n
  5. Changez vos v\u00eatements et lavez-les apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9s \u00e0 des produits de combustion ou \u00e0 d'autres contaminants. Faites-le d\u00e8s que possible et\/ou isolez-le dans un sac poubelle jusqu'\u00e0 ce que le lavage soit disponible.<\/li>\n
  6. Douchez-vous d\u00e8s que possible apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 \u00e0 des produits de combustion ou \u00e0 d'autres contaminants. \u201cDouche dans l'heure\u201d<\/li>\n
  7. Les EPI, en particulier les pantalons de travail, doivent \u00eatre interdits dans les zones situ\u00e9es \u00e0 l'ext\u00e9rieur du sol de l'appareil (c'est-\u00e0-dire la cuisine, les zones de couchage, etc.) et jamais dans le m\u00e9nage.<\/li>\n
  8. Des lingettes, ou de l'eau et du savon, doivent \u00e9galement \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s pour d\u00e9contaminer et nettoyer r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement les si\u00e8ges de l'appareil, l'ARA et l'espace int\u00e9rieur de l'\u00e9quipage, en particulier apr\u00e8s des incidents o\u00f9 le personnel a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 \u00e0 des produits de combustion.<\/li>\n
  9. Obtenez un examen m\u00e9dical annuel, car la d\u00e9tection pr\u00e9coce est la cl\u00e9 de la survie.
