Recent Deliveries - Safety Source Fire

On July 20, 2020, we were proud to deliver our latest Pierce MaxiSaber to the Lunenburg & District Fire Department. At the presentation, we were thrilled to be joined by the Chief and members of the department, local government and even the Captain of the Bluenose II. This delivery caps off almost two years of work by hundreds of people and this new apparatus is a great example of what can be done to provide custom fire apparatus uniquely tailored to a community’s needs.

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia is the birthplace and home of a true Canadian icon; the Bluenose II ranks among the Maple Leaf and the beaver as symbols of Canadian history and is the pride of Nova Scotia. We would like to thank her Captain and the team at the Bluenose Company Store who went out of their way to provide us with the correct fonts and graphics to ensure that our tribute to this important piece of our heritage was correct in every way. Special thanks to the graphics department at MAXIMETAL for helping make this idea a reality.

This truck was also supplied dressed with a full complement of All American Hose PONN Gladiator 1.75” and 2.5” hose and Kryptonite 4" supply hose.

History of the Colour Scheme

In the 1920s, the Chicago Fire Department ordered Ford Model T cars for their chiefs to use. The body of the car was painted red, the traditional colour for fire apparatus, but the Model T had a cloth roof covered in a tar finish that wouldn’t take paint. This black-over-red colour scheme became a hallmark of the city’s fire apparatus fleet and became popular throughout the fire service. This trend continues today with many fire departments adopting this contrasting look. There are many who believe that contrasting colours make trucks more visible and thus safer on the road when responding to emergencies. The colour scheme for this MaxiSaber takes this a step further with a black-over-red cab paired with an all-black body and pumphouse.

Our first apparatus delivery for 2020 was this 100’ Pierce Heavy Duty Industrial Foam Aerial Platform. Vale Minerals had unique requirements for an Industrial Foam Aerial for their Long Harbour Operations facility in Newfoundland and this Arrow XT meets their needs.

This apparatus packs a punch with a Detroit Diesel 525hp DD13 engine, driving an Allison EVS 4500 transmission and a Hale 3000GPM fire pump. To meet their requirements for Class B Foam application, the HUSKY 300 Foam System will provide up to 5000 GPM of 60% foam solution.

The 100' platform aerial is equipped with a 3" waterway, supplying dual 2000 GPM Task Force Tips Monsoon electrically controlled monitors.

We were able to deliver this truck, on budget, within three months from start of consultation to delivery by making use of Pierce Manufacturing’s industry-leading stock program.

The town of Portugal Cove – St Phillips came to us with some very specific requirements for their new rescue. This MaxiMetal-built rescue is based around a Ford F-550 cab and chassis with a 6.8L Triton V10 motor. It features all-LED lighting and seating for six, with four of the seats being mounted in the rescue body with SCBA seating. In the rear of the apparatus, there is a large compartment featuring two 500 lb pull-out trays and a through-body compartment to store ice rescue equipment.

Built to satisfy their need for BIG WATER, Liverpool is home to this 2019 MaxiMetal tandem tanker. Built on a Freightliner M2-112 4 door chassis, this apparatus makes full use of its 450hp engine and 1500 GPM Hale pump. It carries 5 firefighters, 2,500 gallons of water and ladders and porta-tank mounted on a Maxi Hydraulic rack. At the rear is an electrically operated stainless steel swivel dump chute.

This Pierce MaxiSaber is equipped with a 10,000 lb winch recessed into the front bumper, a remote-controlled light tower mounted on top of the body and 30kW Onan PTO generator. This truck also features a Holmatro rescue tool pump, mounted in a compartment and plumed to bulkhead fitting on the front bumper. This allows for rapid and easy deployment of their hydraulic rescue tools while keeping firefighters sheltered from oncoming traffic in front of the apparatus.

The first Pierce apparatus in Fredericton’s fleet, this custom fire engine features MaxiMetal’s 26"-wide narrow pumphouse and proprietary folding ladder rack on the officer’s side. Storing a 24' ladder, 14' Roof ladder and two lengths of hard suction hose, the rack keeps the ladders up and out of the way when not needed but will lower them to shoulder height for quick, safe and easy deployment. While this engine normally responds within the urban core of Fredericton, it is also equipped with a 1500-gallon porta-tank, stored in a rear compartment, and an electrically controlled dump chute to provide tanker service outside of the hydranted part of the city.

Charlottetown’s Heavy Rescue vehicle is built around a Pierce MaxiSaber cab and chassis featuring a 380hp Cummins L9 engine, Allison transmission and a 15kW PTO generator.

This apparatus also features a Will-Burt light tower recessed into the top of the body and has an ingenious hydraulically operated staircase that provides access to the top of the truck and additional storage compartments underneath.
